4th and 5th graders head to Lincoln Theater

Some of our 4th and 5th grade students headed to DC’s Ford Theater to present a speech they had been working hard at the last couple of months.

This national program for grade 3 – 12 pairs a Ford’s Theater teaching artist with schools to collaborate with students to prepare and perform a speech. Students used the words of great orators like President Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., Mary McLeod Bethune and others. Our students learned the historical context of the speech, the power of oratory and the fundamentals of performance and public speaking. Way to go!!

And a big thank you to Mrs. Saxton for spearheading this for our students!
